The Owosso Farmers Market brings locally raised produce, nursery stock shrubs and trees, flowers, flats of bedding plants, hanging baskets, vegetable plants, farm fresh eggs, ethnic foods and hand made products to downtown Owosso on May 1st and every Saturday following through the end of October. Supporting the Owosso Farmers Market contributes to preserving local farm land, using fresher better tasting local foods and circulating dollars in the community.
The OFM event schedule this year is a fun and exciting one! May 1st: Backyard habitat for birds, feeders and housing, with an open Q & A to the public. Mothers Day weekend includes a presentation on getting started with Native Michigan Wildflowers and a choice of Wildflowers to purchase. Consecutive special weekly events include: June Strawberry Shortcake & Homemade Ice Cream Social, Seasonal Grilling of fresh produce and meat by local chef's with free samples, The Good The Big & The Ugly Tomato Contest, August Doggie Beach & Doggie Tricks Contests, Autumn Apple Festival and October Pumpkin Carving Contest.
Anyone can enter the contests. Forms will be available at the market for anyone wishing to enter. Awards will be given to winners of the contests based on judges decisions as well as a peoples choice award based on public voting for their favorites.
New to the market is a seating area for relaxing and enjoying gourmet coffee drinks and cappuccino, breakfast foods, pastries or quality ready to eat ethnic foods. Other home made local food items include fresh baked pies, cakes, candies, nuts, ice cream, cookies, pastries, breads, maple syrup, mustards, honey, cheese, sausages, jam and pickles. Dog biscuits, treats and toys will be available for pets. Handcrafted items by local artisans feature garden statuary, soaps, candles, jewelry, knitted and crocheted items, rugs, handbags, birdhouses and feeders, stepping stones and furniture.
